Carbide Burr Sets
Carbide burr sets from Walter and Drillco: 5 to 10 matched burrs in a case. Double cut for steel and stainless, single cut for fast removal, aluminum cut for aluminum and brass. Most fit a 1/4" die grinder; Drillco No. 6 and No. 7 are 1/8" for pencil grinders.
Choosing a carbide burr set
A carbide burr set puts the common head shapes in one moulded case, so you have the right profile to hand instead of forcing one burr into every job. We stock 19 sets: Walter kits and Drillco's US-made 7000 sets, in double cut, single cut and aluminum cut, from 5 to 10 burrs.
Pick the cut first. Double cut is the default for steel, stainless and weld blending. Single cut takes a bigger bite for fast removal. Aluminum cut (NF) has wide open flutes so aluminum, brass and copper do not clog the burr. Keep separate sets for steel and soft metal.
Then the size. Sets with 3/8" and 1/2" heads on a 1/4" shank fit any standard die grinder and cover most shop work. The 1/8" shank sets (Drillco No. 6 and No. 7) are for pencil grinders and detail work.
Set or singles? A set costs far less per burr. The Drillco No. 10 aluminum cut set is 8 burrs for $303.38; seven of the same shapes bought singly from Walter come to $681.95.

Common questions
What is in a carbide burr set?
A carbide burr set holds one burr of each common head shape in a matched size, usually cylinder (SA), ball nose (SC), ball (SD), egg (SE), tree (SF, SG) and cone (SL, SM), in a moulded case. Each set lists its exact shapes on the product page.
Which carbide burr set is best for aluminum?
An aluminum cut (NF) set. The Drillco No. 10 (70S010NF) has 8 aluminum cut burrs from 3/8" to 1/2" for $303.38, and the Walter 01V995 kit has 5 for $393.42. A double cut set clogs on aluminum within seconds.
Single cut or double cut set?
Double cut for most shops: it leaves a finer finish, grabs less and is the default on steel and stainless. Single cut removes metal faster with a coarser finish.
Is a set cheaper than buying burrs one at a time?
Yes, by a lot. The 8-burr Drillco No. 10 set costs $303.38; seven of the same shapes bought singly cost $681.95.
Where are these sets made?
Drillco 7000 sets are made in the USA. Walter's 01V kits are made in China to Walter's specification.
What shank size are the sets?
Most sets are 1/4" shank for standard die grinders. Drillco No. 6 and No. 7 are 1/8" shank for pencil grinders.
