Bellhanger & Flex Drills Carbide Tipped Bellhangers
ITM stiff-shank bellhangers with a carbide tip, 1/4" to 3/4" in diameter and 13" to 36" long, for drilling through framing and tougher material.
Choosing a carbide-tipped bellhanger
A carbide tip holds its edge longer than plain steel when the hole runs through abrasive material or framing that has been hard on your bits. This collection has 17 ITM stiff-shank bellhangers, from 1/4" to 3/4" in diameter. Lengths run from 13" to 36" (for example 3/8" x 13", 1/2" x 24" and 3/8" x 36"), and shanks are 1/4", 5/16", 3/8" or 1/2".
Drilling tips
Carbide is hard but brittle. Keep the drill square to the work, feed steadily, and avoid levering or bending the bit in the hole, because side loads chip the tip. Back out now and then to clear chips so the bit does not bind.
Check the shank in the title, such as "w/3/8" shank", against your chuck before you order. If you do not need a carbide tip, the HSS bellhangers cover the same sizes.

Common questions
When should I choose carbide-tipped over HSS?
Choose carbide when you expect abrasive material or other conditions where steel dulls quickly. For ordinary wood framing, an HSS bellhanger is usually enough and more forgiving if the bit flexes.
What sizes are available?
Diameters run 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4", in lengths such as 13", 18", 24", 30" and 36". Not every diameter comes in every length, so check the title.
What shank do I need?
Shank size depends on the bit: 3/8" for nine of the 17, 5/16" and 1/4" for three each, and 1/2" for two. The title shows it, for example "w/3/8" shank". Match it to your chuck capacity.
