Choosing an SDS-Plus rebar cutter

Anyone drilling concrete for anchors or dowels will eventually hit rebar. SDS-Plus rebar cutters and punchers are made to go through the steel instead of stopping the job. The range is ITM, with both Rebar Cutter and Rebar Puncher listings from 3/8" to 1-1/2" in diameter, in 8", 12" and 18" lengths.

Drilling tips

Use an SDS-Plus rotary hammer with hammer action on. Hold the tool straight, use a steady feed and do not lean on it. Cutting steel is slower than cutting concrete. Back out now and then to clear dust and metal.

Choose the diameter for the hole you need and a length that clears the full depth. Confirm with the drawings or the engineer before you cut structural rebar, because a hole that crosses bars can weaken a slab or beam. For larger holes, see SDS-Max rebar cutters.

Common questions

What is the difference between a rebar cutter and a rebar puncher?

Both names are used in this range and both cut through rebar while drilling concrete. Check the product page for the listing you want, or call us if you are unsure which suits your job.

What sizes and lengths are available?

Diameters run from 3/8" to 1-1/2", with 8", 12" and 18" lengths in the titles. Sizes include 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1", 1-1/8" and 1-1/4" among others.

Do these need a rotary hammer?

Yes. They are SDS-Plus tools for an SDS-Plus rotary hammer with hammer action on. A standard drill chuck will not hold them.
