High-Speed Drill Bits Extra Length (18" and up)
HSS drill bits from 18" to 72" for long holes through framing, walls and thick stock. Mostly Tru-Cut, plus Triumph, in 118° bright and 135° HD black oxide, sizes 1/8" to 1".
Choosing an extra-length bit
Extra-length high-speed steel bits reach where nothing else does: through several studs or joists, a wall, or a thick piece of stock. This range starts at 18" and runs through 24", 36", 48", 60" and 72", in sizes from 1/8" up to 1". Most are Tru-Cut, with some Triumph. Bright finish bits are 118° and black oxide bits are 135° HD.
Drilling tips
A long bit whips if you crowd it. Start with a shorter bit so the hole is on location and straight, then follow with the long one. Run at low speed, keep the drill square and supported, and back out often to clear chips before they pack.
Do not lean on the drill. Let the bit feed at its own pace and stop if it begins to bind. Cutting oil helps in steel.
