Metal y madera
Drill bits and hole-making tools for metal and wood: HSS twist drills, spade bits, ship augers, step drills, counterbores and countersinks from Triumph, Tru-Cut, ITM, Weldon and Titan.
Choosing a bit for metal or wood
This range covers both trades. For metal, it is mostly HSS twist drills in jobber, stubby, Silver & Deming and extension lengths. For wood, there are 19 spade bits, 16 ship augers and three flexible bellhanger augers. Step drills, counterbores and countersinks round out the set. Makers include Triumph, Tru-Cut, ITM, Weldon and Titan.
Twist drills are the all-round choice, and plenty are sold in packs. Pick a spade bit for quick, rough holes in framing, and a ship auger when you need a deep hole in timber.
Drilling tips
Run metal at a slower speed with cutting oil, and wood at a higher speed with steady pressure. Start large holes with a pilot. With spade bits, keep the drill square and ease off at breakthrough to avoid tear-out. Back the work with scrap wood when you can.

Common questions
Which bit do I use for metal and which for wood?
HSS twist drills are the standard for metal and also drill wood. For faster, larger holes in wood, use a spade bit, and for deep holes in timber use a ship auger.
What is the difference between jobber, stubby and extension drills?
Jobber is the standard length. Stubby is short, so it stays rigid and fits tight spots. Extension drills, such as the 6" and 12" aircraft lengths, reach deeper. Lengths are in the product titles.
Do these come in packs?
Many of the twist drills do. Titles show packs such as 144 for ThunderBit® drills. Each product page shows the quantity.
