Choosing a metric drill bit
These are Triumph's metric drills: uncoated, bright finish, 118° high-speed steel jobber bits to ANSI specification. There are 32 sizes, including 1.20 mm, 1.50 mm, 2.00 mm, 2.50 mm, 3.00 mm and 3.50 mm at the small end, and 10.50 mm, 11.00 mm, 12.00 mm, 12.50 mm and 13.00 mm at the top.
Tap drill and pilot sizes
Metric threads need a specific tap drill. For standard coarse threads, 4.20 mm suits M5, 5.00 mm suits M6 and 8.50 mm suits M10. Always check a tap chart for your thread pitch.
Drill with cutting oil on steel, run slower as size increases, and use a center punch to start the hole. Uncoated bits are a plain, general-purpose choice, and for fractional sizes see the jobber length range.
