Ship Auger Drill Bits Power Pole
ITM Power Pole ship augers are the long-reach series for deep holes in timber and framing. Diameters run 1/2" to 1-1/16" in 18", 24", 36" and 48" lengths, all on a 7/16" shank.
Choosing a Power Pole ship auger
Power Pole ship augers are the long series in the ITM auger range. Every bit here is 18" or longer, with lengths of 18", 24", 36" and 48", in diameters from 1/2" up to 1-1/16". All of them carry a 7/16" shank. Pick the length by how deep the hole runs, then the diameter by what has to pass through it.
Drilling tips
Use a low-speed, high-torque drill, ideally a right-angle or heavy-duty model, and keep both hands on it. The screw tip pulls the bit in, so let it feed instead of leaning on it. Back the bit out every few inches to clear chips, especially in deep holes, or the flutes pack and the bit binds. Ease off as the tip breaks through to avoid blow-out on the exit side.
Check the wood for nails and screws first, because steel ruins the cutting edges fast. For shorter holes, the Standard series in 8" and 18" is easier to handle.

Common questions
What shank do Power Pole ship augers have?
Every bit in this collection has a 7/16" shank. Confirm your chuck or adapter takes that size before you order.
Which length should I buy?
Choose a length longer than the material you are drilling so the flutes can carry chips out. The range covers 18", 24", 36" and 48".
Can I use a ship auger in metal?
No. Ship augers are wood-boring bits. Check the wood for nails and screws before drilling, because hitting steel damages the cutting edges.
