Choosing a bridge reamer

A bridge reamer is a tapered cutter that enlarges a hole and pulls mismatched holes into line. Ironworkers and fabricators use them when two steel members are bolted up and the holes do not quite meet. This range is four ITM hex bridge reamers in 11/16", 13/16", 15/16" and 1-1/16".

Using a reamer

Reamers take a heavy cut for their size, so run them slowly in a drill with enough torque to hold the bit when it bites. Use cutting oil, keep the drill square to the work and apply steady pressure. Do not stop and start in the hole, because that is when a reamer grabs.

If you need more sizes or a different shank, the car and construction reamers cover a wider range.

Common questions

What sizes of bridge reamer do you carry?

Four ITM hex bridge reamers: 11/16", 13/16", 15/16" and 1-1/16". If you need a size outside those, check the car and construction reamers.

What is a bridge reamer used for?

Enlarging holes and aligning them when steel members do not line up, typically in structural steel work. It is not a finishing tool for precision bores.

Should I use cutting oil?

Yes. Reaming steel at low speed with cutting oil gives a cleaner hole and a longer-lasting cutter. Keep the drill square and avoid stopping with the reamer buried in the hole.
