Blades and wheels for cut-to-fit

Strut, all-thread, conduit and ladder rack all get cut to length in the field, and overhead that usually means a portable band saw because it throws no sparks. Cut stations and the shop take the chop saws. This step holds the blades and wheels for both.

  • Portable band saw blades in 27-3/16", 28-13/16", 30-9/16", 32-7/8", 35-3/8" and 44-7/8" deep-cut lengths, 14/18 TPI for strut and conduit, 10/14 for threaded rod, 18 and 24 TPI for thin wall, sold in 3-packs. See the by-saw-brand collections if you are matching a blade to a Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita or Bosch saw.
  • Walter chop saw wheels 12" to 16" on a 1" arbor: ALLSTEEL, CHOPCUT, CHOPCUT II, CHOPCUT TITAN and CHOPCUT ALU for aluminum.
  • Walter cut-off wheels for grinders, 4-1/2" to 9": ZIPCUT, ZIP TITAN, TOUGHCUT, ALLSTEEL and ZIP STAINLESS in Type 1, Type 27 and spin-on.
  • Metal-cutting circular saw blades 5-3/8" to 14" for steel, thin steel, aluminum and stainless.
  • Metal recips 4" to 12", including heavy-metal and carbide-tooth blades, in 5-packs and 50-packs.

Match the band blade pitch so at least three teeth are in the cut: 14/18 on strut and conduit wall, 10/14 on solid rod. Deburr every cut end before it meets a wire or a hand.

Common questions

Which band saw blade pitch for Unistrut and all-thread?

14/18 TPI for strut and conduit wall, 10/14 TPI for 3/8" and 1/2" all-thread. Keep at least three teeth in the material to avoid stripping teeth.

What length blade does our portable band saw take?

Most deep-cut saws take 44-7/8"; compact saws take 27-3/16", 28-13/16", 30-9/16", 32-7/8" or 35-3/8" depending on the model. Check the saw's label or our by-brand collections.

Can we cut rigid conduit with a cut-off wheel?

Yes, a 4-1/2" or 6" Type 1 cut-off wheel on a grinder cuts rigid and EMT. Clamp the conduit, and use a band saw or a reamer afterward to clean the burr before pulling wire.
