Choosing an abrasive wheel

Most of this range runs on an angle grinder. Walter supplies the metalworking side: HP XX grinding wheels, ALLSTEEL TURBO flap discs and COMBO ZIP cut and deburr wheels, many of them stainless safe. ITM supplies the diamond blades, from 4" grinder wheels up to 14" blades for cut-off and walk-behind saws.

Picking and using a wheel

Match the wheel to the job. Grinding wheels remove stock, flap discs grind and blend in one step, cut-off wheels slice, and diamond blades cut masonry, tile and stone. Check the arbor too: the range includes 7/8" holes and 5/8"-11 threaded hubs.

Never run a wheel faster than the speed printed on it, keep the guard in place, and let the wheel do the cutting instead of leaning on the grinder. The diamond blades are listed for wet or dry cutting, and water keeps them cooler and cuts down dust. Not sure which way to go on masonry? Start with the diamond blades.

Common questions

What is the difference between Type 27 and Type 28?

Both have a raised center so the nut sits clear of the work. Type 27 wheels are flat; Type 28 wheels are saucer-shaped. The Type 28 wheels here are Walter HP XX saucer grinding wheels in 7" and 9".

Can I grind with a cut-off wheel?

No. Thin cutting wheels are built for load along the edge and can break under side pressure. Use a grinding wheel or flap disc for stock removal. COMBO ZIP wheels are sold for cutting and deburring.

Are the diamond blades wet or dry?

Every diamond blade in this range is listed for wet or dry cutting. Water keeps the blade cooler and controls dust, so it is the better choice on long cuts.
