Silver & Deming Drill Bits
Triumph Silver & Deming drills are 118° HSS jobber bits on a 1/2" reduced 3-flat shank, so large-diameter holes can be drilled in a 1/2" chuck. Black oxide and black & gold finishes.
Choosing a Silver & Deming bit
A Silver & Deming drill has a body larger than its shank. Triumph's versions here have a 1/2" reduced shank with three flats, so a drill with a 1/2" chuck can cut holes bigger than 1/2" in diameter. The flats keep the shank from spinning in the jaws under load. All are HSS, jobber length, with a 118° point.
The range comes in two finishes, black oxide and black & gold, and some are sold as the HD ThunderBit® version. Sizes step in 64ths and 32nds of an inch, so check the exact size on each product page.
Drilling tips
Use a low speed and firm, steady pressure. Big bits need torque, not rpm. Clamp the work, use cutting oil on steel, and start with a smaller pilot hole for the larger sizes. Ease off as the bit breaks through so it does not grab.

Common questions
What is a Silver & Deming drill?
A drill with a reduced shank: the cutting body is larger than the shank. These have a 1/2" shank with three flats, so a 1/2" chuck can drive bits larger than 1/2".
What speed and lubricant should I use?
Run a low speed with firm, steady pressure. Use cutting oil on steel, and use a smaller pilot hole first for the largest sizes.
What is the difference between the finishes?
The range comes in black oxide and black & gold finishes. Both are HSS with a 118° point and the same 1/2" 3-flat shank.
