Foundation Repair: Footing & Demo
SDS-Max and SDS-Plus chisels, bull points, a clay spade and bushing tools for chipping the footing so a pier bracket seats flat, plus demolition recip blades.
Chisels for footing prep
Every push and helical pier starts at the footing: dig, chip the face and underside flush, and seat the bracket on sound concrete. The SDS-Max bull points (12", 18" and 24") break out the concrete, scaling chisels from 1-1/2" to 3" wide clean the face, and the carbide bushing tool roughs it flat. The 5-3/8" x 16" clay spade digs hard clay at the bottom of the excavation.
For lighter interior work, the SDS-Plus bull points, flat and scaling chisels run in a smaller rotary hammer. Floor scrapers lift tile and old flooring before a drain tile job, and the demolition and heavy-metal recip blades cut framing, nails and thin steel out of the way.
Let the hammer do the work: lean in just enough to keep the chisel seated, and work from the edge of the concrete inward. A dull chisel wedges and stalls, so swap points before they mushroom. Cutting, coring and grinding concrete releases respirable crystalline silica, and a basement holds it in. Cut wet where you can, or run a shroud on a HEPA-filtered extractor, and follow your company's exposure control plan.
