Choosing driver bit tips

The right tip is the one that fills the screw head exactly. This collection has 159 ITM bit tips, from #1, #2 and #3 Phillips to Torx sizes T9 through T50, square, slotted, hex, Pozidriv and tamper-proof styles. Most are 1/4" hex shank, with 73 in the impact-ready 1/4" hex impact style and 14 with a 5/16" hex shank. Electricians and shower door installers will find the tips they reach for most.

Choosing and using tips

Match the tip to the screw. A #2 Phillips in a #1 screw will slip and round it out. Pozidriv and Phillips look alike but are not interchangeable, so use the right one. For impact drivers, choose the impact shank or the Blue-Shock impact bits, which are made for the shock.

Push firmly and keep the driver in line with the screw. Set the clutch on a drill so you do not strip heads. Swap a tip when the edges round off, because worn tips cam out and damage fasteners.

Common questions

Impact or standard shank?

Use an impact-style shank or Blue-Shock impact bit in an impact driver. Standard 1/4" hex bits fit any 1/4" hex chuck for drills and hand drivers. The product title and shank tag tell you which.

Can I use a Phillips bit in a Pozidriv screw?

It will turn, but it fits poorly and tends to cam out. Use a Pozidriv tip for Pozidriv screws and Phillips for Phillips, to protect both the bit and the fastener.

What shank sizes are offered?

Most tips are 1/4" hex, in standard and impact styles. Fourteen tips have a 5/16" hex shank. The product title shows the shank when it is not a standard 1/4" hex.
