Bellhanger & Flex Drills Electrician's Flex Bits
ITM flexible bits with a screw point and 3/16" shank, in 3/8" and 1/2" diameters and 24" to 72" lengths, for drilling through walls and ceilings from an opening.
Choosing an electrician's flex bit
A flex bit bends, so you can drill through framing from an access hole or cutout and keep going into the next cavity. This collection has eight ITM flex bits made of high carbon steel with a 3/16" shank. Each has a screw point, and seven are auger style. Diameters are 3/8" and 1/2", and lengths run 24", 36", 54" and 72".
Drilling tips
The screw point pulls the bit into the wood, so you do not need to lean on the drill. Let it feed itself with light pressure at moderate speed, and hold the drill steady and in line with the hole. Pull the bit out now and then to clear chips, especially in deeper holes.
Flex bits follow the line you start, so begin square to the surface and keep the flexible section as straight as the job allows. For a straight-through hole with a stiff bit, the bellhanger range has longer, more rigid options.

Common questions
What does the screw point do?
It threads into the wood and draws the bit forward, so the drill feeds itself and you need little pressure. Use light pressure and let it pull.
What lengths and sizes are there?
Two diameters, 3/8" and 1/2". Each comes in four lengths: 24", 36", 54" and 72". That gives eight bits in all, so pick the length that clears the full run.
What shank do these have?
All eight have a 3/16" shank, which fits standard drill chucks. The bit itself is 3/8" or 1/2" in diameter and made of high carbon steel.
