High-Speed Drill Bits
High-speed steel drill bits for general metalwork in jobber, aircraft extension, stubby and Silver & Deming styles, mostly Triumph and Tru-Cut. Fractional, number and letter sizes, singles and bulk packs.
Choosing a high-speed drill bit
High-speed steel (HSS) is the everyday drill bit for steel, stainless, aluminum and other metals. This range is mostly Triumph and Tru-Cut, in jobber length for general work, long aircraft extension and extra-length bits for deep holes, stubby bits for tight spots, and Silver & Deming bits with a reduced 1/2" shank for large holes.
You will see 118° and 135° point angles and finishes from plain bright and black oxide to Black & Gold and TiN, plus cobalt bits and 3-flat shanks that grip in the chuck. Sizes cover fractional, number and letter drills, and many are sold in 6, 144 and 288 packs.
Drilling tips
Use cutting oil on steel, go slower as the bit gets bigger, and start large holes with a pilot. Begin with the jobber length unless you need more or less reach.

Common questions
What is the difference between 118° and 135° bits?
118° is the general-purpose point angle for mild steel and softer metals. 135° heavy-duty bits are used on harder material, where the point needs to start cleanly and skate less.
What do the finishes mean?
Bright or uncoated is plain HSS. Black oxide is a surface treatment that helps with heat and corrosion. TiN is a harder gold-colored coating. Cobalt bits are a different steel for tougher alloys.
Are bulk packs available?
Yes. Many jobber sizes come in packs of 6, 144 and 288, as well as single bits. The pack size is in each product title.
