Using carbide-tip bits

A multi-purpose bit is for jobs where the material changes partway through, such as brick, block, tile and softer stock. These ITM bits have a carbide tip and are listed to ANSI specification. The range is tagged for electricians. There are 15 items in the range, including a 5-piece set covering 1/8" to 3/8".

Drilling tips

Run them in rotation only. The range is rotation only, so keep hammer action switched off. Start at a moderate speed and apply light, steady pressure. Back the bit out from time to time to clear dust, and stop to let it cool if the tip gets hot.

Match the shank to your chuck and choose the length by the depth of hole. Lengths from 2-1/2" to 12" are listed across the sizes, from the shortest 1/8" bits to the 1/2" x 12".

Are multi-purpose bits OK in a hammer drill?

No. These are rotation only, so switch off hammer action. Hammering can chip the carbide tip. Use a rotary hammer bit when you need to hammer into concrete.

What does the ANSI specification tag mean here?

All 15 bits carry the ANSI Specification tag. Check the product page for each size and length before you order.

What sizes and lengths come in this range?

Diameters run from 1/8" to 5/8" and lengths from 2-1/2" to 12". The 5-piece set covers 1/8" to 3/8".
