Choosing an aluminum end mill
These are Titan end mills made for aluminum. The range splits into square end mills, which leave a flat floor and sharp inside corners, and corner radius mills (.010r, .020r and .040r), which leave a small radius and are less prone to chipping at the corner. Both come in 2-flute and 3-flute versions.
Titles read diameter x length of cut x overall length, so a 1/2" x 2" x 4" mill is 1/2" across with 2" of cutting flute. Pick the shortest length of cut that does the job.
Cutting tips
Aluminum wants high spindle speed and plenty of chip room. Use coolant or a cutting lubricant so chips do not weld to the flutes, clear chips as you go, and avoid rubbing at too low a feed. Keep the stick-out short, since a long reach deflects and chatters. For a stronger corner, see the corner radius mills.

Common questions
Should I pick a square end or a corner radius mill?
Choose square end for a flat floor and a sharp inside corner. Choose corner radius when a small fillet is acceptable, since the radius strengthens the corner and is less likely to chip.
Are 2-flute or 3-flute mills better for aluminum?
Both are made for aluminum and both are in the range. Two flutes give more chip room in deep slots, and three flutes are stiffer. Clear chips and use lubricant either way.
Can I cut steel with these?
They are listed as end mills for aluminum. For steel, stainless or other hard materials, choose a mill made for that material.
