Choosing a diamond core bit

Diamond core bits grind through tile and stone instead of cutting it, which is why installers reach for them on hard porcelain and dense material that dulls carbide. This range is all ITM: diamond brazed bits, diamond segment bits, small brazed bits for little holes, plus adapters and a glass and tile drill guide.

Match the shank to your tool. The smaller bits come on 1/4" hex or 3/8" hex shanks. The larger segment bits, up to 2-1/2", run on a 5/8"-11 thread, and an SDS-Plus to 5/8"-11 adapter is in the range.

Drilling tips

Run in drill mode with the hammer off. Keep water on the bit, use light pressure and let the diamond cut. The drill guide, made for holes from 5/32" to 3-1/4", stops the bit skating across glazed tile at the start. Afterwards, a diamond countersink cleans up the rim of the hole.

Common questions

Can I use a hammer drill with diamond core bits?

Use drill mode with the hammer off. Hammer action chips tile and damages the diamond. A rotary hammer is fine if it has a drill-only setting, and an SDS-Plus to 5/8"-11 adapter is available for the thread-mount bits.

Do I need water?

Yes. Water keeps the diamond cool, carries away slurry and makes the bit last longer. A bit run dry on porcelain overheats fast. Keep a steady trickle or build a small dam around the hole.

Which shank do I need?

The smaller bits are on 1/4" hex or 3/8" hex shanks. The larger segment bits use a 5/8"-11 thread. The shank is named in each product title, so check it against your drill or adapter before you order.
