Choosing a tile countersink

A diamond countersink bevels the rim of a hole in tile so the edge is clean and hardware sits neatly over it. These four ITM tools are sized by hole: one for 3/16" and 1/4" holes, then ranges of 3/16" to 1-3/8", 1" to 1-7/8" and 1-7/8" to 3".

Three of the four are on a 5/8"-11 thread and one is on a 1/4" hex impact shank. Check the shank on the product page against your drill or adapter before you order.

Drilling tips

Drill the hole first, then bevel it. Use water, light pressure and rotation only, with no hammer. Let the diamond do the work, since pushing hard overheats it and chips the glaze. Stop as soon as the bevel looks right, because you cannot put the tile back. To make the hole, see the diamond core drills.

Common questions

Do I use water with a diamond countersink?

Yes. Water keeps the diamond cool and flushes away slurry, which helps the tool last. Run it wet with light pressure and stop when the bevel looks right.

Can I use hammer action?

No. Use rotation only. Hammer action chips tile and can damage the diamond. A rotary hammer is fine if it has a drill-only setting.

Which shank do these use?

Three of the four thread onto a 5/8"-11 shank and one runs on a 1/4" hex impact shank. The product page lists the shank, so check it against your drill or adapter.
