ITM's stone countertop cores are vacuum brazed, which means the diamond is bonded to the steel rather than sintered into a segment — you get diamond on the face and down the side wall, so the core will plunge a hole and then open it out or correct a line without binding. They are ground for sink and faucet cutouts in granite, marble, porcelain and engineered stone, with a 2-1/2" cutting depth that clears any normal slab thickness, and a 5/8"-11 thread that runs straight onto an angle grinder. This is the 1" core: 3 diamond teeth on a 4" body, 2-1/2" of cutting depth.
- ITM rates this core for dry drilling. Do not run water through it; the vacuum-brazed bond is built to shed heat dry.
- Dry drilling stone throws off respirable crystalline silica, which causes silicosis. Use a shroud and a HEPA dust extractor, and the respiratory protection your silica exposure control plan calls for.
- Stone fabrication shops in California cut wet by law. Cal/OSHA's silica standard has banned dry cutting in stone shops since December 2023, so this is not the core for a California countertop shop. For occasional field holes outside that setting, dry with extraction is the intended use.
