Data Centers: Rack & Equipment Anchors
Bigger anchors for racks, PDUs, CRAH units, chiller pads and seismic bracing: X-Cutter SDS-Max bits 3/8" to 2" up to 52" long, SDS-Plus bits from 1/2" up, tunnel drills and SDS-Max extensions.
Bits for 1/2" to 3/4" anchors
Racks, PDUs, CRAH units, chillers and seismic bracing go down on 1/2" to 3/4" wedge anchors, and a seismic rack frame can take four 3/4" anchors on its own. This step holds the bits for those holes and the long ones through thick slabs and walls.
- ITM X-Cutter SDS-Max bits with a 4-cutter head from 3/8" to 2", at 13", 17", 21", 23", 36" and 52" overall.
- SDS-Plus bits 1/2" to 1-1/4" from the BOHR, eVolution and Redline lines, including 36" long bits for deep holes in a smaller hammer.
- SDS-Max tunnel drills 1-1/2" to 3-1/8", 22" and 39" long, for through-holes that do not need a clean core.
- SDS-Max tapered extensions (8" and 18") and an SDS-Max to SDS-Plus adapter.
Wedge and screw anchors drill at the anchor's nominal size, so a 3/4" anchor takes a 3/4" bit. Start a long bit straight with light pressure, and pull it back often to clear the flutes. Drilling, coring and cutting concrete releases respirable crystalline silica. Run a shroud on a HEPA-filtered extractor or cut wet where the job allows, and follow your company's exposure control plan.

Common questions
What bit do we use for a 3/4" KB-TZ or Strong-Bolt wedge anchor?
A 3/4" bit, drilled to the embedment on the anchor sheet. Wedge and screw anchors use a hole the same nominal size as the anchor; only drop-ins use an oversized stop bit.
How long a bit do we need through an 18" slab?
Pick a usable length longer than the slab plus the embedment you need below it. The X-Cutter SDS-Max 21" and 23" overall bits give 16" to 18" of usable length; the 36" and 52" bits go further.
Do the SDS-Max bits fit any brand of hammer?
Yes. SDS-Max is a universal chuck, so these bits fit any SDS-Max rotary hammer.
