Bits for the hanger campaign

The highest-volume drilling on a data center is overhead: trapeze hangers for cable tray, strut racks, busway and sprinkler and pipe hangers, thousands of them, mostly into the deck. This step holds the bits for that work.

  • ITM STP stop bits drill the right diameter and depth for drop-in anchors from 3/16" to 3/4", so a 3/8" drop-in gets its 1/2" hole and a 1/2" drop-in its 5/8" hole without over-drilling.
  • ITM eVolution X-Cutter SDS-Plus bits have a 4-cutter carbide head that keeps drilling round when it clips rebar, 5/32" to 1-1/4".
  • ITM BOHR 2-cutter bits cover the everyday sizes to 36" long, and Redline tubes of 5 to 25 suit crews that burn through them.
  • Multi-purpose carbide bits 1/8" to 5/8" for block, brick and light concrete in a standard drill.
  • A nail-in anchor driver and an SDS-Max to SDS-Plus adapter round it out.

Wedge and screw anchors drill at the anchor's nominal diameter; check the anchor maker's sheet first. Blow or vacuum the hole clean before setting an anchor, since dust left in the hole costs holding power. Drilling, coring and cutting concrete releases respirable crystalline silica. Run a shroud on a HEPA-filtered extractor or cut wet where the job allows, and follow your company's exposure control plan.

Common questions

Which stop bit goes with a 3/8" drop-in anchor?

The 1/2" stop bit. A 1/2" drop-in takes the 5/8" stop bit, and 5/8" and 3/4" drop-ins take 7/8" and 1". Always confirm against your anchor maker's installation sheet.

Will these bits fit our Hilti, Bosch or Milwaukee hammers?

Yes. SDS-Plus is a universal chuck, so any SDS-Plus bit fits any SDS-Plus rotary hammer regardless of brand.

Do you carry hollow vacuum bits for adhesive anchors?

No. We carry solid SDS-Plus and SDS-Max bits; adhesive anchor holes drilled with them are cleaned with a brush and HEPA vacuum per the anchor instructions.
